By the morning of February 7, the colors inside the chrysalis were not just a darkening, but now there were different degrees of darkening. The shape had also become more compact and was changing. And the growing continued until the wings and body of an adult butterfly could be seen underneath the chrysalis skin. By noon on 8 Feb., the chrysalis has become black and leathery. When the day gets warmer, perhaps the butterfly will break out and be born...

The caterpillar was free, but barely alive. The weather had remained cool and rainy. It was around 3:30 P.M. on February 8, 2000. Only a film like broken chrysalis remained dangling from the silk thread of the long dead leaf. I had missed the actual break out.
