It
was simply a perfect South Florida "winter" day. Sun was bright, skies were
blue, the temperature was in the mid 70's, as we made our way to Quiet Waters
Park in Broward. The Renaissance Fair was in the last of five weekends held
each Winter in South Florida.
We had parked the car and paid our fee and entered the gates. Everything seemed all right, just then. A moment later there was yelling and screaming of glee making us turn around quickly to see what the commotion was all about. Good thing too, we might have been run over by the parade of the King and his court, followed by other similarly festive fellows. |

|
| I
turned away from the parade and saw the strangest creature. I followed
him as he made his way through the crowd, trying to get a real good picture
of him.
After three attempts, I gave up and watched as he scurried away into the crowd. "Funny costume," I said aloud. "Inside the gates, it is a garb. But, that is no costume nor is it a garb, the troll is wearing."
"Yes, the Gates of Time. You are no longer where you were. You are were you are." |
|
| Suddenly, the air erupted in the sound of bells. Deep and pounding, the sound shook me to the core, filling me with a sense of joy that seemed to propel me along an invisible highway of sound to another time and dimension...if I was not already there. For I looked around and saw the strange sight, that had to be the source of the bells. |
| I walked
around the contraption and strange man playing the bells as if they were
hammers and strings of an organ. Around I walked and finally stood witness
to his hidden face. The mask was scary. The music was like nothing I had
ever heard before. It seemed transforming. Eerily transforming...what face
did the mask hide?
Where was I and what had happened to my friends... |
